CRYSTAL MAIDS MUD-RUNNING ABILITY. Saratoga, N. Y., August 10. Jack Baker lias in Crystal .Maid one of the last horses by Pirate of Penzance that will be seen under colors. Crystal .Maid is a three-year-old and Pirate of Penzance is practically out of business. Colonel Milton loung retired tlie son of Prince Charles some time before he decided to break up his McGrathiana Stud, because he considered tlie horse too old for further service. Crystal Maid is a typical Pirate of Penzance in her liking for muddy going. Mr. Baker attributes her two victories here solely to her superiority in soft going. She is mauy pounds better in the mud than in dry going.
