Far West broke slowly and trailed far in the rear for the first three furlongs, then closed up rapidly in tho j last, half and drew ont and outstayed the favorite in the stretch. Firestone ran. lapped on the pacemaker from the start, was caught tiring in the stretch and succumbed in a game closing effort. Royal Onyx ran in close attendance on the pacemaker for six furlongs and tired finally. Ruble held a small lead to the : stretch before tiring and was a persistent and close-up fourth. Fighting Bob showed brief early speed, but : failed to stay. K. trailed early and clot-ed up rapidly in the last mile with no contention for second place. Bigot made the running for a mile and a half, fenced recklessly and finally came togrief. but was remounted and finished. Pompous, well up for half of the journey, quit badly and is green. Great Heavens, a seemingly hopeless trailer in the deep inside going for half of the journey, closed an immense gap Into a fast going second. Dr. Holzberg, on the inside in bad going, set the early pace, then lapped the leaders for six furlongs lx-fore tiring in a cracking effort, and was sore in Ills preliminary. May Amelia made the running for half of the journey under a pull, but failed to stay and quit In the stretch. Rosimlro ran in prominent contention for five furlongs and retired precipitately.
