1 THE GREAT EASTERN HANDICAP - One of the first stakes for two-year-olds founded by the Coney Island Jockey Club was tlie Great East-em Handicap. At its first running it- was won by James R. Keenes Imported colt. Dutch Roller, with A. J. Cassatts Water Lily second and P. Lorillard s Leo third. Cassatt and Lorillard died years ago, but Mr. Keene survives, a venerable and prominent figure in the turf world. In the years following such celebrated nice horses as Dew Drop, King Fox, a wonderful two-year-old; Raceland, Tournament, Sallle MC-Cielland. Lady Violet, Ogtlen. Hamburg, Mesmerist. Endurance by Right, Lady Amelia. Burgomaster and MeiJiant triumphed in the Great Eastern, while such other great ones as Inspector IS.. Connemara, George Oyster, Russell, Curt Giuiii.
