LEFFARE AND BLUE HAWK .Winners of Two Best Offerings of Laurels Featureless Program. - True Fliers Fractious Behavior at Post Contributes to Her Unexpected Defeat Halter Men AotiTC. LAUREL, Md., October 27. A featureless card was programmed at Laurel this afternoon and the seven races carded catered to horses of selling plater variety. A handicap and a two-year-old dash were the best offerings of the day and both were productive of spirited contests. In the handicap, at three-quarters, the Triple Springs Farm Stables LEffare, ridden by Butwell, was returned the winner from Wraith and Hidden Jewel. The latter was the one to establish the early pace, but tired badly at the end, while Butwell brought LEffare up on the outside to finish with a rush. Wraith was restrained off the early pace and finished with great speed, too late, thougn, to be of any avail. The Nevada Stock Farm supplied another winner when Blue Hawk beat True Flier, with Evelyn Sawyer third in the two-year-old race. The winner came from behind the pace established by True Flier. The latter was fractious at the barrier and lunged repeatedly. Blue Hawk came through next to the inner rail and finished fast. Evelyn Sawyer outstayed Lady Myra for the short end of the purse. The race was marked by a claim which was declared void by the stewards. A. Alexandra and S. Louis were waiting at the claim box to deposit claims for the winner, Alexandra for ,100 and Louis for ,500. Due to and misunderstanding both men deposited their claims two minutes after the time had elapsed, which brought the ruling. A field of maiden two-year-olds faced the starter in the opening dash of the afternoon and a thrilling battle ensued when Scarlet Bugler beat home Pettifogger, while Wilkes-Barre was third. The winner went wide at the stretch turn and carried out the Quincy Stables horse with him. Wilkes-Barre saved ground all the way, but tired badly. The following claims were filed this afternoon: J. Collins took Mizar for ,005, and A. Alexandra secured LEffare for ,502. COMPLETES TRAINING BARK. J. C. Fletcher, the well-known Canadian breeder, was an arrival from his home in Toronto this morning and will remain for tomorrows racing. Mr. Fletcher reports that a new training barn has just been completed on his farm and that he entertains high hopes of a yearling brother to Stoto. A majority of the mares at the Fletcher Farm have been bred to Luke McLuke. Roscoe Goose arrived at Pimlico with the horses of J. S. Ward, headed by the Maryland Futurity candidate Donges. W. S. Martin and trainer T. Moran came over from Pimlico for a days racing and reported that the yearlings purchased at Saratoga, which were shipped to Gallaher Brothers Farm, are doing splendidly. The Martin horses will be wintered at Lexington, Ky. Mrs. F. Farrars long-distance plater Hen-drie has been retired and shipped to Demoss Farm, Delaney Valley, Baltimore County. Hendrie is a direct descendant of Maggie B. and will be used in the stud to get hunters. Trainer Roy Waldron came over this morning with Lucky Hour, the Lexington Stables candidate in the Washington Handicap. R. F. Carmans Excuse Me cast himself in a van while being shipped to Pimlico. Sam Louis sold the two-year-old Van-derburg to W. J. Kramer at private terms yesterday, and Blackstone and Susiana went to G. W. Foreman. H. E. Bilson at private terms sold to H. G. Bedwell the stallion Thunderstorm, by Olambala Night Fall. Bedwell, it is understood, was acting for Messrs. Payne and West E. Wv Moore announced that he would ship to Tijuana on Sunday for the winter meeting at that point. Frank J. Kearns purchased the plater Flying Devil at private terms yesterday.
