MONTREAL, Que., May 14. — Dominion-bred thoroughbreds from the Ross Farm, Vcrcheres, Quebec, the Canadian producing establishment of Commander J. K. L. Ross of Montreal, established last year a new record for Canadian stock in North American racing. Twenty-nine of these Verchefes thoroughbreds, mostly sons and daughters of Marathon and Fitz William, which are now standing at the Ross Farm, with Wigstone, whose first two-year-olds will race this year, accounted for about 4,655 in stakes and purses. Eight won 1,955 under the orange and black of Commander Ross himself, twenty-one won 2,710 for other sportsmen, mainly Canadians. They were successful in all parts of the United States and Canada and at various distances. The biggest winners were Procyon, a chestnut colt, three years old. by Marathon sire of Behave Yourself, Kentucky Derby winner of 1921, also of Jack Hare Jr., a Preakness victor in 1918, and Bridge of Canny; Pris-mar, a two-year-old daughter of Marathon and Priscilla Mullens, she a daughter of Armeath II., and Diadema. a three-year-old daughter of Marathon and Samura, she by Santoi. DIADEMA A STAB. The record of Diadema, which as a two-year-o.d scored at the first asking at Havre de Grace, was remarkable. In eight starts she won five times, was second twice and third once. Diadema has yet to finish out of the money. As a two-year-old she started ten times, winning seven races and finishing second three times. Astonishingly fast, breaking track records is one of Diademas specialties. Her best marks are 1 :26% for seven-eighths, at Kenilworth Iark, Windsor; 1 :00% for five-eighths at Connaught Park, Ottawa, and 48 for half a mile, at Woodbine. In her last race Diadema made George M. Hendries Salvo, a son of Charles Edward and Shoo Fly, go three-quarters of a mile in 1 :12% over the Woodbine course to beat her by a scant length in the ,000 Rothschild Cup renewal. She beat her stable companion Affectation, also Keltie and some others. She had previously trimmed Salvo, also Rex Gaiety, Ajom, Push Pin and some others in the ,000 King Edward Hotel Handicap at Kenilworth Park, and Salvo in a dash of seven-eighths of a mile, in which she established the track record of 1 :26%. PRISMAR DOES WELL. Prismar established a new track record of SS% at Connaught lark when she beat Maypole in her first winning race. One of her big days was September 22, when she won the ,000 Lansdowne Nursery Handicap over the Woodbine course at Toronto, in which her most formidable competitors were D»;c Gaiety, Hallucination, Honeys Jewel and Some Scrapper. But she was better, perhaps, at Woodbine on September 27 when she defeated her stable companion Lilt, also Van Patrick, Doughoregan, Maypole and Patchwork in the ,000 Grey Stakes. Procyons banner day was at Woodbine, September 27, on which, about an hour after Prismar had shown her heels to Lilt and Van Patrick in the Grey Stakes, he galloped a mile and three-quarters in 3.00, record time not only for Woodbine but for all Canada, in front of Baby Mine, Push Pin, Keltie. El Jesmar. Blarney Boy, Woodbine. Anmut and Royal Visitor in the ,500 Durham Cup, a race for Canadian-breds. Six days before he accomplished this feat Procyon had beaten Chloris, Dellahm and Woodbine and some others in the ,500 William Muloch Handi- cap, a dash of a mile and seventy yards. After Diadema and Prismar, considerable winners under the Ross silks were Affectation, eh. f, 3, by Marathdn — Smirk ; Sudor, b. f, 4, by Dorante — Sou, and Hallucination, ch. c, 2, by Fitz William — Pleasant Dreams. Wedding Prince, ch. c, 3, by Marathon — Golden Wedding, was a good winner for G. H. Abbott. Dellahm and Thorny Way. respectively, a son and a daughter of Prince Ahmed, also did well, respectively, for the Kenton Stable. ♦
