The latter began slowly and closed a big gap in the first cjuarter, but came wide when entering the stretch and lost much ground. SATANA. outrun for the first half mile, finished fast. Won driving; second and third the same. SOUTHERN CROSS was saved under restraint for the first half mile, then raced into a clear lead and out-printed FLYING CLOUD through the stretch. FLYING LOLD was confidently ridden and followed the leader under restraint in the early running and, finished gamely when called on, was slowly wearing the winner down in the last strides.
