i ; ; : t | EASTERN DERBY CANDIDATES Reach Louisville Safely — Whitneys Seven Eligibles — Zev and Sallys Alley Are Absentees. LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 14.— The eastern Derby candidates, accompanied by stable companions, arrived early in the afternoon by special train and were unloaded promptly. All shipped in excellent condition. Vigil. winner of the Preakness Stakes Saturday, was the cynosure of observing horsemen. James Bo we brought a big band of Derby eligibles, seven of the thirteen that he had in the two cars being candidates. They comprise : Enchantment, Flagstaff, Bialto, Chickvale, Cherry Pie, Picketer and Barbary Bush. They are owned by H. P. Whitney and the Greentree Stable. Preston Burch brought General Thatcher and five others. W. Garths consignment included three two-year-olds and the Derby eligibles Martingale and Golden Bule. Better Luck was among the newcomers and joined Aspiration, another of Benjamin Blocks Derby hopes. There was some disappointment that the Sinclair-Hildreth confederacy did not send Zev, Dunlin or Bud Lerner with the consign-ment that came today. Sallys Alley was also an absentee. Jockey E. Kummer, who will ride one of the J. S. Cosden starters, arrived with William Garth. Benjamin Block, accompanied by his wife, were arrivals today and will remain until after the running of the Derby. James Bowe, Jr., came with his father and will assist in the training of the horses he has here.
