BEGINNERS LUCK FAST Covers Mile in 1 :38 to Win Feature at Latonia. Oh Susanna Continues On Her Triumphant Way Sakah Turns Tables On Parader. LATONIA, Ky., Sept IS. E. R. Bradley annexed the feature race carded at Latonia with Beginners Luck, which won with consummate ease, covering the mile distance in 1:38. Blotter finished in second place and Phidias was in advance of the other two that started. Beginners Luck, ridden by the diminutive H. Hny, had to be much the best, for she nearly came to grief right at the start when she stumbled. Again was she near a fall at the first turn as a result of stumbling. Hay managed to get her head up when straightened for the racing on the back-stretch, and the filly quickly settled into her stride and began a stern pursuit of Blotter and The Runt, which were leading her. The Runt was passed promptly, but Blotter refused to give way until in the homestretch. In the last sixteenth Beginners Luck had practically no opposition, and she only cantered to the finish. Cloudy weather was the order this afternoon and the attendance seemed to be somewhat off from the usual large crowd that has been seen here daily. The volume of betting, however, was of normal average, and, as the winners were extensively backed, the public fared well. The racing was spirited, several of the finishes being of the close variety, with the riders exerting their utmost to land their mounts in advance. SHORTEST PRICED FAVORITE. J. N. Camdens Oh Susanna continued on her winning way inaugurated in Chicago and she showed a fast performance in the sixth race, which she won commandingly in almost track record time. She began fast and led for the entire way to win well under restraint over Rural Route, with Deeming in third place. Oh Susanna was a pronounced favorite, the shortest priced winner on a Kentucky track in some time, and her backers never had much cause for uneasiness. The concluding dash also produced a short priced favorite in Coyne, but this uncertain racer proved a dismal failure and he failed to get a portion of the purse, Plus Ultra, under Stutts good riding, winning from My Valet, with the extreme outsider Escarpo-lette finishing in third place. Hal Price Headleys Supremus, which was considered good enough by his owner to start in this years rich Hopeful Stakes, was not fancied to any considerable extent by the public here to beat the maidens starting in the third race, resulting in an extremely liberal price prevailing against him. He made a show of his opponents and won hard held as his rider elected. Friend finishing in second place, with Elector third. The latter was given wide consideration and had no mishaps in the race. He was simply not good enough. WALLACE BIG HELP. The change in riders from Ellis to Wallace, coupled with decreased weight, from his last start, worked a vast improvement in Sakahs running and he beat home handily his former conqueror, Parader, which in turn just managed to outstay Sagamock. Sakah was the leader from the start and the first part of the race found the entire field of five under restraint. The pace quickened just before the stretch was reached, but Sakah held his challengers safe and passed the finish a short length in advance. Parader was taken back unnecessarily sharp at the half-mile ground and Garner was at a loss at the stretch turn whether to come wide or to the inside. The hesitancy in judgment was costly and contributed to the Pendergast representatives failure. Lady Marian, under able guidance by H. Stutts, led home nine other ordinary ones that started in the initial dash at a mile and a sixteenth. It was an easy score for the Tri-State Stable representative, and she drew out decisively in the stretch, but during the earlier stages had to overcome interference. The Competitor, far back early, picked up his opponents steadily in the stretch and landed in second place. Flower Shop would have figured more extensively in the result, though finishing third, had Garner not shown timidity. He took her fr.om the inner rail to an outer position, and it cost her much ground, but she got up in time to outstay Zack TerrelL The latter raced well, considering that he was unprepared at the start and was away poorly. J. B. Respess landed the second race with his Minus. For some reason the filly was an outstanding choice, but she had to exert herself to the utmost to win and then only by virtue of good racing luck that came her way when the leaders went wide into the stretch. This enabled her to save much ground and she won as a result. Our Option, an outsider, finished in second place after coming from far tack. Gussie P., another slightly regarded one, took the short portion of the purse. Queen Bess showed considerable speed for half a mile, but tried to run out at the stretch turn and interferred sharply with Mamie OJane, which was racing almost level with her at the time.
