EPINARD WORKS FAST MILE Makes Impressive Showing in Public Trial at the Aqueduct Course. AQUEDUCT RACE TRACK, NEW YORK, N. Y:, Sept 18. Epinard was brought out at Aqueduct this afternoon for a public trial which was a corker, when he did 1:40 for a mile. This he did alone, and in a manner which left no doubt as to his prowess. The fractional time of the trial in :24, :4D, 1:15 and the mile 1:40. The final eighth in :12, was as fast as could have been desired as Everett Haynes had him well under restraint in the closing strides. Pierre Wertheimer and Eugene Leigh were very well satisfied following the work and expressed themselves as tickled with their scheme of trying him out in public with colors up. The trial was well received by the crowd which attested their appreciation of the novelty.
