ADDED STARTER TRIUMPHS Beatrice Carries Off the Oakdale Handicap for Belair Stud. 9 Runs Fine Race to Beat Scnalado and Tca-nuts Improved Weather Brings Out Increased Attendance. AQUEDUCT RACE TRACK, NEW YORK, N. Y., Sept. 18. Beatrice, which trainer James Fitzsimmons added to the Oakdale Handicap to carry the Belair Stud colors, proved an easy winner of the three-quarters dash when she led home five other highly ragarded juveniles. R. T. Wilson Jr., was second with Senalado, while R. L. Gerrys Peanuts was third. The winner was ridden by jockey G. Fields, and set all the pace, to run the distance in 1:12, which was an impressive performance in the muddy going. Racing at Aqueduct this afternoon showed decided improvement over that of yesterday and as a result a decided increase in the attendance was noted. Despite the smallness of the fields, racing was of a spirited order. In the Oakdale there was but little delay at the barrier and when the start Avas ef-facted, Beatrice was always in front followed by Extreme while Cloudland was bringing up the rear. Rounding the turn the leaders drew away with a pronounced advantage over the others and Beatrice was still showing the way. Extra Dry was racing in third position while Peanuts had moved up steadily. As the leaders rounded the turn into the home stretch, they went a trifle wide and Maiben brought Senalado. up on the inside. When well in the stretch Extreme was the first to give way and Beatrice drew clear. Senaldo had gradually improved his position and narrow.ed the gap separating him from the Belair starter, but at the end was beaten by a length and a half while Senalado enjoyed a two length lead over Peanuts. The race carried ah added value of ,000 and netted the Belair Stud coffers ,650. The Luke Blackburn, which was the secondary feature of the day, at one mile, for three-year-olds and over, brought out a field of four starters and resulted in an upset when A. C. Bcstwicks Peddler, ridden by jockey Scobie, was a handy winner from the Belair Studs Flames while W. J. Boths Skyscraper was third, ahead of Eaglet The winner revelled in the going and dominated the running from th start Skyscraper was the one to race in closest pursuit, while Eaglet was on the outside- leading Flames. In the meantime, Peddler had taken a wider course in .the firmer footing and through the stretch held his opponents safe. Eaglet in the meantime, swerved into the rail which proved to be his undoing as he became mired in the deeper mud and slop. Flames made a determined bid in the stretch but could not overhaul the leader. Normal added another purse to his already long list this year, when he carried the colors of W. Durnan to victory in the fifth race at one mile. Bar Gold raced to second place while High Commander was third. The race called for the starters to ridden by boys that have not won two races and E. McCarthy had the mount on the winner. Normal ran to his best form under the youngsters guiding and held sway throughout. E. J. Hollands The Delaware II., ridden by McAtee, was an easy winner of the closing race of the afternoon from a poor band of maidens at six and a half furlongs. Rock-ford raced to second place while Ten Eyck was third. The winner dominated the running all the way and was under stout restraint at the end. Swinging, which has been highly regarded all this year, had but little trouble leading a field of four other fillies to the end of a five-eighths journey to score an easy victory for Harry Payne Whitney. The Rancocas Stables Barbary raced to second place driving hard over Mrs. F. Ambrose Clarks Sweet Ann. Ridden by jockey Parke, Swinging dominated the running from the start and through the final sixteenth was under stout restraint with Parke looking back for the others. At the end Barbary was giving up her best to save second place from Sweet Ann. The latter showed a good performance from the start while both Brown Betty and Witchbroom were always outrun. Swingings time for the five-eighths journey over the muddy track was surprisingly fast. Al Fresco, racing for the Greentree Stable and ably ridden by jockey Barrett Haynes proved an easy . winner of the steeplechase over the two-mile course which engaged a field of nine maidens. Driving hard to take second place was J. E. Davis Hornsea, while W. V. Dwyers St. Lawrence was a tiring third. Of the nine starters seven finished the course without accident J. S. Wards White Ash was the first to go down and he unseated Smoot when he swerved into the seventh jump. Relentless fell, at the eleventh and before she could recover Orions Sword jumped over her. St Lawrence was the one to establish the early running arid was followed by Hornsea, Al Fresco and Prickle. There was but little change, in the running position until the final turn of the field. At the twelfth jump Haynes began his move on the Green-tree starter and he responded with spirited courage. Closing gamely under a mild urging he wore down St Lawrence and at the fifteenth jump had a safe advantage, which he easily maintained to the end. Hornsea in tho meantime had moved up steadily and closed resolutely under severe punishment and disposed of St Lawrence through the final sixteenth. The latter tired badly after setting the pace but at the same time had a wide margin over Orions Sword. The latter was outrun at all stages and failed to gain any ground when called upon. W. Garth, acting for J. S. Cosden, at pri-ate terms, sold Rockstone and Nautical to P. S. P. Randolph. Finland, Martingale and Bluemont were sold to Woods Stockton while Bulls Eye, Dan IV., and Volcano were shipped to the Cosden farm at Warrenton, Va., to bo retired for the remainder of this year.
