AKRON OPENS ON SEPT. 24 Purses Increased for Sixteen-Day Meeting Values to Range From 00 to ,000. AKRON, Ohio, Sept 18. Encouraged by the exceptionally gratifying success of the two previous meetings held at Northampton Park this year, announcement was made recently by the Akron Racing Association that a fall meeting of sixteen days will be staged at the popular local three-quarter mile course, beginning September 24. In order that the forthcoming meeting may surpass any former meeting held at Northampton since its construction last fall, an appreciable increase has been made in the purses offered for the various races, which will range from 00 to ,000 in value. Since the inaugural meeting at Northampton, which took place a year ago, purses have been raised gradually in an effort to attract a higher grade of thoroughbreds to this section of the country, and the management has announced that this progressive plan will be continued as long as the patronage continues to increase in proportion, as it has in the past Indication that the local course has already become a popular training ground with horse owners is evidenced through the fact that for some little time nearly one hundred runners have been quartered at Northampton undergoing intensive training. According to reports practically all of these horses are now ready to begin their fall campaign with the opening of the forthcoming meeting. These will be joined by consignments from Maple Heights and other racing points.
