Twenty Years Ago Today Chief Turf Events of April 18, 1905 Racing at Aqueduct, Memphis, San Francisco and Union Park and Fair Grounds at St. Louis. C. E. Rowe has purchased from G. C. Baker for the reported price of 5,000 the two-year-old bay colt La Sorcerie, by Sorcerer — lima B. The colt has been shipped to New York. He is eligible to the Futurity and other stakes. I Otto Stifel is interested with Mr. Rowe in the colt. Thers will be no peace conference held in Cincinnati this week between representatives of the Western Jcck?y Club and the American I Turf Association. Captain S. S. Brown, to whom the entire matter was passed for the setting of a date, has come to the conclusion ■ that there is no possibility of a settlement being made. "There is nothing in the story that Boots Durnell has decided not to race any of the horses in the string of Mcnt Tenn?s at our meeting," said an official of the Worth Jockey Club this afternoon. "Durnell was looking over the program book of the St. Louis Fair Grounds a day cr two ago and he saw some races that looked easy for three or four of the lot he has at Worth, so he shipped them over to the Mound City to pick up a little feed money. He will be back here when we open up a week from Saturday." Lawyer Steinhart, from the office of Howe and Hummell, who for years has been attacking racing laws in various ways, planned a sensational raid at Aqueduct today, but it didnt come off. Failing in his attempts to stop racing on the score that there is gambling at the track, he concluded that he could gain his point by having the plant closed upon the claim that liquor was being sold in violation of specific regulations. He swore out warrants before justice Cunningham. The justice took a trip to Aqueduct and found that Steinharts charges were incorrect. He refused to permit the warrants to be served. ! _A .
