HUNTINGTONS LADIES DAY Brings Out Goodly Sized Attendance Despite Threatening Weather Conditions. HUNTINGTON, W. Va., April 17.— Todays program at the Fair Grounds was made up for the cheaper grade of horses quartered at the track and. although the fields were small, some interesting sport resulted. There was a good crowd present, despite the fact that a slight rain began to fall a half hour before race time. Threatening clouds hung overhead for the entire afternoon, but the track remained in good condition and the large attendance of the "fair sex," for whom the day had been set aside, seemed to enjoy the racing im-: mensely. The best field of the day went to the post in the fifth race, which was won by Mrs. M. H. Jordans Hoover. There was some little delay at the barrier due to the bad behavior of Parthema, but starter Harris got them away to a perfect break. Parthema soon took command and led to the stretch turn, but there relinquished the lead to Hoover, which had moved up with a great burst of speed from last position. The Jordan colorbearer had things his own way from here to the finish, with Royal Springs outgaming First Pullet for second money. Parthema quit badly and finished last.
