TANGARA AGAIN WINS Qualifies for Place Among Stars of His Division. 1 Beats All-Aged Band in Feature Race at Latonia — Arcady Provides a Surprise. * LATONIA, Ky.. June 3.— S. N. Holmans good three-year-old Tangara, which has been showing improvement with every start, qualified this afternoon for a place among the stars of his division when he took into camp an all-aged band that started in the feature race, at a mile and seventy yards. He won from King Gorin II., with Buck in third place. Tangara had to be best, for the first quarter found him in last place, but he managed to save some ground by staying close to the inner rail, but later he raced around the leaders and wore down King Gorin II.. which had displaced Briny Breezes from the lead. Laveen displaced Tangara out of favoritism, but the Oots filly, after making a bold bid when passing the half-mile ground, began retiring in the stretch. The field of eight starters in the race went closely grouped most of the way and furnished a spectacular contest for the major part of the way. "Warm weather again prevailed today and, while there was a decrease in attendance from the opening day, still a goodly crowd was present and they witnessed some entertaining sport. The favorites did not fare as well as on the opening day, but most of the winners, with the exception of Arcady. found goodly support. JOCKEY N". J. BARNES INJURED. The injury to jockey X. J. Barnes in the i third race, was a marring incident of the afternoon. The jockey appeared to have suffered internal injuries, but the gravity of his case will not be known until a more thorough examination is made at the hospital, where he was rushed with all speed. Jo-key r. Geving, on Coyne, was held responsible for jockey Birnes fall and was suspended for ten days by the stewards. The main upset of the afternoon came in the fourth, intended as the secondary feature. II. B. Whitneys Arcady w.on from some crack sprinters. lie led them the entire way and won with much in reserve. Gibbons finished in second place, just managing to beat Quince Garden after a hard drive. lord Granite and Pindar Ieel. both expected to be pron-.incnt in the race, figured poorly, both retiring when the real racing began in the stretch. The mile-and-sixtccnth race caused an in-Jury to N. J. Barnes, who had the mount on Equity. Be was caught in the jam that came when the field of twelve starters were about to round the first turn. Barnes was unseated and appeared to have been struck while prostrate by some of the rear guard. Goldfield won after racing in close pursuit of Coyne to the stretch turn. Near the end Contact was pressing him hard, but he had half a lengths advantage. Coyne finished in third place. Those in the wake of the first four at the finish had their chances partly spoiled by tha jam at the first turn. IIIIAIM.EY COLORS IN" ERONT. E. K. Bradleys Idle Hour Far-n Stable earned its initial purse of the meeting in the second race, attracting twelve maiden youngsters when Banco Suivi. well ridden by Meyers, wore down The Engineer in the last eighth to win cleverly. Harry Wills finished | in third place. The early stages of the race did not seem promising for Banco Suivis j success, for he was forced back, bat he gained steadily and when urged hard in the last eighth he responded in game style and I was drawing out near the end. Little Cook, i a v/eU-snpported one, tired. The opener, that brought out a dozen fillies, found Ada Blackjack the winner. She led from the start and maintained a good advantage for the entire trip, to win from White Wings and Delectable. Outcast was probably the ha st in the race, but she dropped far out of it or the first half mile and was ridden extremely wide thereafter, she do— d an lmnuri-e gnp throVJgh the stretch. Marengo led for the entire way. but had to be hustled some during the stretch racing to outstay the consistent lolly Bay. Warfare completed a double for S. N. llol- man when he won the final race in a spec-tai liar drive with Sincere.
