Featured by the fifty-first running of the Kentucky Derby, which attracted one of the largest crowds that ever witnessed a horse raco in this coun.ry, the Churchill Downs spring meeting of 1925 passed into history tho most successful ever held at that historic course. The Kentucky Jockey Club was lavish in Its prize offerings, distributing a total of 99, S77 in stakes and purses during the nineteen days of racing. The daiiy average distribution amounted to 5,783. The joy and pride of all owners and breeders winning the coveted Kentucky Derby fell to G. A. Cochran, the eastern turfman, and by virtue of that triumph his name heads the list of money winning owners of the meeting. J. C. McGill, the International Stable, the Idle Hour Stock Farm Stable. J. J. Troxler and C. B. Dailey were others that garnered some of the big prizes and increased their earnings for the year Flying Kbonys sensational victory in the Derby placed him at the head of the money winning horses, though that was the only race he ran at Churchill Downs. Spic and Span, King Nadi, Deeming, Childs Play. Take a Chance and Epsomite were others that figured importantly. M. Garner rode the largest number of winners during the meeting, seventeen out of eighty-five mounts. J. McCoy ami EL Meyer tied for second honors, each with ten winners. However, it was Earl Sand. Americas premier rider, that carried off the highest saddle honors when he won the Derby with Flying Ebony, that superb horseman sharing with tho Cochran three-year-old the glory that comes with victory in that great race.
