THORNCLIFFE ATTENDANCE * Crowd of 10,000 Celebrate Kings Birthday at Track. « Claiming Itnre Program Provides Good Sport — Gayly Cains Verdict After Hard Drive. TORONTO. Out., June 3. — Real midsummer weather attracted ten thousand people to Thoi-ncliffe Park on the Kinds birthday and they began to arrive bright and early, the motor bus service being much superior to other cars. The race specials were crowded to the roof and it is unlikely the crowds will be surpassed during the meeting. It was expected that Tuesday nights rain would make the track heavy, but the moisture was needed badly and the track was only a trifle off being fast. The program was an ordinary one, being made up entirely of ,000 claiming races, but the fields were of fair size and there were no standouts, making for fair speculation. Form followers got off to a bad start In the first race when Pnidy, nicely ridden by Stevens, waited bthind the pace of Golden Locks and Kosman until the stretch and then when called upon the filly responded gamely In the drive down the s retch, going away to win by a length from Kosman, which also overhauled the pacemaker in the stretch run. Golden Locks was away well and rushed into an early lead, with Kosman right behind and the ultimate winner third, and they ran in that order to the stretch, where Prudy made her run and easily disposed of the leaders In the run home. June Fly was the winner of the Canadian-bred race which was second on the card. She outlasted Catamaran and Oakomine in a hard drive in the stretch. In the third race Parmachenee Belle got down in front after a stretch battle with Llanimp and C. T. Worthington. The winner raced well back until the stretch was reached, then moved quickly up and collared Llanimp. Gayly gained the verdict in the fourth race after a desperate stretch drive with Orpe-lina and Toodles. Only a powerful ride by McTague was able to land the verdict for the Haymaker colt. Orpelina and Toodles, fighting the whole length of the stretch, disputed the lead with Gayly. Orpelina was the first to show in front when the field straightened away, closely followed by Toodles. with Gayly remaining a trailing third until the turn into the stretch. Gayly was then sent to the leaders and the three engaged in a hard drive right to the wire. Haymakers colt assumed a neck lead and maintained it right to the end. Orpelina was only a small margin in front of Toodles and the finish was a great one between the trio. True American, which races in the colors of Mrs. J. J. Dreyer and ridden by M. Lieb-gold, was returned the winner of the fifth race, a dash at three-quarters, after a hard drive with Fighting Cook. Faenza being third. Jim Arthurs Tod Renesor was the early pacemaker, hut quit at the stretch and True American got up to challenge Fighting Cook for the lead. There was nothing between them until the sixteenth post but a neck and the margin was maintained to the end. Racing in the colors of the San Tsidro Stock Farm. Sasper proved to be an easy winner of the sixth race, which was at a mile and a sixteenth. Blossom House finished second and Bethlehem Steel was third. The lwst finish of the day came out of the last race, which fell to Rock and Rye by a nose over Sir Ieonid. with Lampus third. •
