Reaches Churchill Downs After Wintering in the East. ♦ Twenty Horses in This Establishment — H. T. Archibalds Mantonian Given First iallnp Since Arrival From Miami. « LOFISVILLE. Ky.. April in.— The first of the stables that had wintered in the eastern section of the country made its appearance this morning when the extensive establishment of EL R. McLean, newspaper publisher, arrived at Churchill 1 owns in charge of trainer John F. Schorr. The shipment came direct from the Penning track at Washington where it has spent the winter months. The stable comprising twenty horses was unloaded without incident, and with one exception all of the horses were unloaded in good | health The stable comprises fourteen two-1 year-olds and six older horses, and is headed hy Prince of Wales, which ooU is an intended starter in the McLean colors in the Kentucky Derby. The other older horses in the stable are Cupids Curse, The Kngineer, Lady Na-varre. Lady Myra and Red cap. The pave-1 nilcs. which are extensively entered in all of the Kentucky spring and summer stakes for two-year-olds, are a fine looking band, and having been in training for some time are well advanced in their preparation. Following is a list of what are regarded as the best of the youngsters : Knir ;iass. li. o. by Fair Play -Declasse. War Kagle. eh. e. by .Man • War Karino. Kleranda, b. f. by The Porter Hannah Pike. Considerable interest was manifested among local horsemen over the appearance of Prince of Wales, as it was the first time the colt had heen seen on the local track. He is a medium sized brown and witli no distinguishing marks. He does not impress one as being a colt out of the ordinary, but he is said to be gifted with good speed and may he one that can go a route. He is by High Time Sand Pocket, a breeding that meets with the commendation of the experts. Trainer Schorr has been going along slowly with the colts preparation and believes he is as well advanced in his training as most of the Other Derby eligibles. Jockeys R. Sharpe and II. Williams are attached to the McLean stable and will do the riding at the coming meeting. Louis Tauher is employed as assistant to trainer Schorr. Th* Churchill Downs track this morning was again in a bad condition and hardly suited for ambitious Derby workouts. This condition, however, did not prevent trainers from sending their charges out for their usual daily work. A majority of the workouts were at three-quarters. Rhinock and ltoyal Omar, from the Parkview Stable, and Champ de Mais and Mike Mcl.ukc, belonging to the Keene-land Stud, were among those s.nt over that distance. The Parkview Stable pair went out together and. running together, finished the distance in 1:22. The Kcenelaad Studs pair ran tlie distance in 1:21%, traversing the half in :"i--; and the five -eighths in 1:05V,- Lon Jones permitted Taaaale Dick to run through the mud for five-eighths, the watches catching the colt in 1:10.
