LUCK PLAYS BIG PART Mazetta Outstays Reputation in Feature at Fairmount Park Loss of Ground Through Inter ¬ ference Results in Defeat of Harned Bros Gelding COLLTNSVILLE 111 June 1 Inclement weather and a heavy track again prevailed at Fairmount Park today resulting in a small attendance to view the racing and detracting considerably from the sport An ¬ other storm developed late last night and put the track in bad shape A heavy mist pre ¬ vailed throughout the afternoon with several brisk showers showersSmall Small fields again paraded to the post in most of the races but several brilliant con ¬ tests developed featured by close finishes finishesIn In the outstanding race Mazetta victress in her start on the preceding day again tri ¬ umphed This time she defeated a good band which included Reputation and Glister Her victory however was of the fluky sort and partly the result of L Pichons rough tactics in causing interference for Glister and Repu ¬ tation The latter was the chief sufferer for lie was forced back and lost considerable ground more than the margin by which he was beaten The incident came near the halfmile post when Mazetta swerved across sharply and forced the others back The ad ¬ vantage that Mazetta secured at this stage stood her in good stead for she just man ¬ aged to win from Reputation by a half length Glister being a neck further back backINITIAL INITIAL VICTORY VICTORYThe The Audley Farm Stable scored its initial success of the meeting in the sixth race when Alice McLuke and Spanish Aster finished first and second in advance of seven other maiden threeyearolds The Audley Farm Stable pair raced as if they outclassed the others and were accorded confident support resulting in their returning the smallest odds of any winner during the meeting meetingThe The closest finish of the afternoon came when Bluefish in the fourth race outstayed Patuxant by a nose after a spectacular drive that had both horses giving their best dur ¬ ing the last sixteenth Bluefish was prob iibly lucky to win as had Patuxant been raced closer to the inner rail he would have forced Bluefish to come around hinv and the margin of ground this would have entailed would have won for Patuxant Overdraft favorite in the race was away poorly but landed in third place placeA A dozen of ordinary ones started in the first race and it enabled the HurstKoerner combination to win their first purse through the victory of Johnny Campbell which suc ¬ ceeded after a hard effort in outstaying Fallen Leaf the early leader with Shasta Rock favorite in third place The winner was always close up and though swerving out in the last eighth succeeded in over ¬ hauling Fallen Leaf in the final strides Shasta Rock was well up from the start but gave way readily when hard pressed pressedSHASTA SHASTA LOVE FAILS Another favorite was defeated in the sec ¬ ond race when Shasta Love well backed failed badly and did not get any part of the purse The winner was Harned Brothers Agnes Call which raced under restraint in the wake of Clover Club until just before reaching the stretch where she took com ¬ mand and won handily Clover Club did not have much difficulty in outstaying Bond Maid which corning with a rush overhauled Shasta Love with ease for third place Shasta Love raced disappointingly as did Outing which was far back for the entire distance distanceAnother Another band of ordinary ones started in the third race and Pocket Mouse was much the best and received confident support He won by a big margin but his rider not taking ciances rode him hard in the last six ¬ teenth in spite of having a lead of fifteen lengths over the suddenly improved Gay Hallie with Triplett fighting hard for sec ¬ ond place but tiring near the end Bonnie Castle was a contender in the early stages but gave readily in the last eighth Coney Island raced well here and closed an im ¬ mense gap from a slow beginning The final race brought the chief incident of the afternoon when Rajah Jack Knight and Teas Ready raced at breakneck speed for threequarters in a false start before their riders became aware of the fact factWhen When the race started Harry Carroll which had the most support wheeled and was left at the post Ixmisville and Nashville a double winner at this meeting was the winner of the race beating home Sweepnet with Powder in third place The others only cantered around and were pulling up most of the way Harry Carroll finishing in fourth Dloci after being left
