I NEW YORK TURF NOTES I 3 NEW YORK, N. Y., June 21. At private terms, Frank J. Keams purchased from the Laurel Park Stud the imported colt Red Sublette. Clarence Watters, who has been riding for Mose. Goldblatt at Latonia, returned here today and will do some of the light-weight riding for the Greentree Stable. Jack Willner has distributed applications for stable accommodations at Saratoga. The blanks were in big demand. I Hope So, winner of the opening race at Aqueduct Monday, is one of the last of the get of Superman, the Commando sire, which stood in Virginia so long, first at the stud at Henry T. Oxnard at Upperville and later at the Kentmere Stud of Kenneth Gilpin. Candy May, winner of the three-year-old filly race Monday is from Epsom May, a daughter of Durbar, winner of the Epsom Derby for H. B. Duryea, the American sportsman in 1914. Altay, which finished second in the recent running of the Ascot Gold Cup is by Durbar also.. This stout stallion is now at Arthur B. Hancocks Claiborne Stud near Paris, Ky. The Shevlin Stakes, which featured the Aqueduct Tuesdays program, was named in memory of James Shevlin, for many years president of the Queens County Jockey Club. He was a horseman of the old school and up to the time of his death he had a man meet him after the races with a horse and wagon to drive him home. He preferred this means of transportion to the automobile or railway train. He was an enthusiastic road driver when the trotter was in his prime and the dirt roads from Prospect Park to Coney Island were kept as good as a race track. Sonny "Workman reported yesterday to trainer James Rowe, Sr., and started in galloping the Harry Payne Whitney horses. He will not wear silks for at least a week, as he will not be permitted to run any risk of further injury to his collarbone, which was fractured in Maryland several weeks ago. Steve Burke, popular lawnite, made his first appearance yesterday after a two weeks absence due to illness. Clarence Farrell of Philadelphia was a visitor yesterday at Aqueduct. Graf Undt Stift was claimed out of the first race by the Ascot Stable for ,000. Frank Coltiletti and W. Banks both earned a suspension of five days for misbehavior in the first race. Coltiletti had the mount on Star Rocket, while Banks rode Flitting Day. Then in the last race Banks surely earned a more severe punishment when his carelessness on Kathleen Crosby brought about her defeat by Resourceful.
