TOTARA showed the most speed from the start, raced ELLA RUFUS into defeat; saved ground on the turns and, coining fast through the stretch, was going away through the final sixteenth. OUT STEP was hard ridden from the start and raced well, but could not reach the winner after making a game challenge after entering the home stretch. SAM SLICK was outpaced, but finished gamely. Won easily; second and third driving. FIREDOG, close up from the start, raced into the lead at the eighth post and drew away to win In a canter. SPHERICITY showed the most early speed and tired, but outfinished NORTHERN STAR. The latter made a game challenge at the eighth post, but had to be taken up when be raced up to the leaders heels. CRIMDUS was in close quarters on the back stretch and could not secure a clear course. BKNNY RUBIN was away in a tangle. SUBTLE was all over the track. LADY ESSINGTON raced in nearest pursuit of the winner throughout and finished fast. RANOCK raced close up and finished fast and gamely. SILENT KING closed a gap and finished fast. SHEPHERD OF THE HILLS held a brief lead in the early running, then was headed by THE VINTNER, but took the lead again and, racing stubbornly with PHANARIOT, managed to outfinish the latter. PHANARIOT, ran a good race all the way and made a game finish. UNCERTAIN, in close quarters on the back stretch, was permitted to drop back to secure racing room, then came to the outside and finished fast. OPPERMAN closed a big gap and finished fastest of all.
