EPSOM MEETING OPENS EPSOM DOWNS, England. June 5.— The meeting here opened today with the Wood-cote Stakes, a fixture for two-year-olds, at five-eighths, as the principal race. It was won by Maj. J. S. Courtaulds Osiris, a chestnut colt by Papyrus, winner of the English l rby in 1923, and which invaded the United States the same year, to be defeated by Zev in the International Race at Belmont Park. Osiris won by a head from Lord Roseberys Cadurgis, which outfinished Major McCal-monts Empire Builder by one length. There were eight starters. The winner was 100 to 6 in the betting. Cadurgis was 7 to 1 and Fmpire Builder was the favorite at 7 to 4. The three placed horses are eligible for the Derby next year.
