CHINOOK PARK INAUGURAL Quality of Horses Racing at Calgary Course Better Than in Past Years. CALGARY, Can., May 21.— With three hundred and fifty horses already on the ground, and more arriving daily, Calgary patrons saw the sport at its best when Chinook Park threw open the gates last Saturday. Calgary at present is in the throes of a tremendous i oil boom, which has brought people from all ; over the continent, and hotel rooms are at a . premium. The quality of the thoroughbreds is higher • than in the past, the handicap division being headed by such good ones as Bob Rodgers, , Manchu and Guinea Hen. Jockey Craigmile is back again on this i circuit under contract to Tom Stone, the » prominent Calgary owner. i The official family is the same as last year, , George Schilling being presiding judge ; E. D. Adams, steward representing the Prairie * Thoroughbred Breeders and Racing Association, - and Jas. Monroe racing secretary. The j management is in the hands of R. James 3 Speers, assisted by Chas. F. Roe. Following the Calgary meeting two seven-day - meetings will be held at Winnipeg, beginning - June 15th. Here the minimum purses s will be 00, with daily handicaps of ,000 and two stakes races of ,500. «
