B WHEELING OPENS MAY 29 WHEELING, W. Va., May 21.— Everything is set for the opening, on May 29, of the local spring race meeting. The people of the Mountain State metropolis and surrounding territory are eager for the return of the thoroughbreds, as this will be the first spring race meeting held here since 1925. Wheeling as everybody knows, is in the heart of the coal region, and owing to the depressed condition of that industry for the past three years, business has not been at its best and it was felt that a spring meeting could not be conducted with profit, hence the sport was limited to the annual fall meeting at the fair. Conditions are so much improved in the Wheeling district this spring, however, with the coal trade picking up and mills and factories working overtime, that the "sport cf kings" will again be staged for the benefit of the local devotees of the sport. The meeting is advertised for thirteen days, but should the attendance justify a longer meeting, as it is confidently expected, it will be of sixteen days duration. The races will be conducted at the State Fair Grounds by the Wheeling Driving Club, of which Mrs. Bert H. Swartz is secretary, to whom all requests for reservations should be addressed.
