SILVERDALE TRIUMPHS ♦ McLean Sprinter Accounts for Third Consecutive Victory. Graduates from Platers Ranks by Winning Glasgow Purse at Churchill Downs. — — ■ LOUISVILLE, K.. May 24.— E. B. McLeans shifty sprinter, Silverdale, this afternoon moved out of the ranks of the platers to account for his third triumph in as many starts at the meeting when he won the Glasgow Purse, feature offering at Churchill Downs. After setting his own pace throughout to run the three-quarters mile in 1 :12%, the three-year-old won by a length from Clog Dance, with Golden Racket third. Out of the good start, Silverdale made his way into a short lead without delay, but Clog Dance was right after him, and Golden Racket was close up. In the first quarter Golden Racket followed the leaders and on the inside of Clog Dance, passing the former in close quarters, but he escaped the pocket only to bear out on the stretch turn and thus lose some ground to the winner and Clog Dance, The winner, too, went a trifle wide entering the stretch, but his swerving was not near as pronounced as that of Golden Racket and when straightened out for the last quarter continued in game fashion, and the persistent Clog Dance could not threaten the McLean colt. Golden Racket finished determinedly but could not improve his position. He was followed by Sister Zoe, which finished with a rush. Golden Racket gained the post of favoritism over the winner and his undoing marked the defeat of four choices. The racing was conducted under ideal weather and track conditions and before an average sized Friday crowd. Maidens Tryst, carrying the colors of E. H. Von Roenn, was the winner over a small band of three-year-olds in the opening race, over six and one-half furlongs. She won easily from Chatter Black, which received a poor ride from J. Heupel, while Blewaway was third. The winner took the lead approaching the stretch and increased her advantage as the race progressed. As Maidens Tryst sped along, Heupel lost much ground with Chatter Black on the stretch turn, then further handicapped his mount by permitting her to swerve to the inside in the stretch, and when fully settled in her stride in the final sixteenth she gained fast, nipping Blewaway right at the end for second place. F. P. Lettellier saddled another winner when his Southland Pal took a large band of platers into camp with the running of the second race. He was the leader from the stretch turn, holding on gamely to outstay Colonel Henry. The latter beat Haramzada Continued on thirteenth page. ■ S1LVERDALE TRIUMPHS Continued from first page. by a half length. On his showing. Colonel Henry offered every evidence that he probably was best. * Showing improvement, Queen Royal, ridden by apprentice Russell, scored an easy victory over a small field of cheap fillies and mares in the third race. Coloratura finished in second place four lengths back and a length in front of Spotlight, the latter finishing with a rush after getting away poorly. The early pace was set by Myth and Sonias Pal, both of which finished fast after reaching the stretch. Superlove proved much the best in ths fourth race. After following the leading Dolly Seth for five-eighths the winner sprinted into a long lead and was out of danger all through the stretch. Both Mollie Myhill and Illustrious closed ground during the late racing and were up for second and third. Lady Basil just failed to last for third place. «
