BELMONT PARK NOTES §_ $ NEW YORK, N. Y., May 24. W. H. Dozier claimed Nifty from J. E. Madden out of the first race for ,500. The stake books for the Aqueduct meeting were distributed today. Lawrence P. Carey, dean of eastern betting commissioners, is confined to his Erookiyn home, suffering broken collar and arm bones and three fractured ribs, the result of a fall on the home stairway. He has lately been a constant attendant there, administering to his invalid wife. Ike Hackelberg, veteran horseman, arrived from Baltimore tor the season stay. Misfortune struck twice in a short time at the G. M. Odom Stable and placed two of its members on the shelf. Sun Edwin, while turned out in one of the paddocks, became frightened at the painters working on the street fence and, swerving quickly, struck his ankle and inflicted a lump. Perkins, while being led on the track for exercise, got the best of his rider and threw him. He galloped through the sedge inflicting nasty looking cuts. "Dolly" Byers did not suffer a broken collarbone as reported. The first examination revealed an old injury, causing the report, while a further investigation showed no broken bones. Byers will ride Saturday. A division of the Eastland Farm Stable will be shipped to Brooklyn for the meeting. »
