NEWS OF DERBY CANDIDATES Minotaur in Brilliant Workout — Naishapur Gallops Half Mile — Clyde Van Dusen Idle. HOMEWOOD, 111., June 6.— Minotaur, which will represent John R. Thompson of Chicago in the American Derby, Saturday, June 15, turned in a good one mile and an eighth trial today. The fractional time was : :35%, :48%, 1 :0iys, 1 :14%, 1 :39%, 1 :54%. The mile, shading 1 :40, was regarded as exceptional. Horses in winning efforts do not always disnlay the speed indicated by this move of this horse. Minotaur went the mile handily, and was eased up as he ran the final eighth. This was the swiftest move made over the Washington Park course by a Derby eligible, and created a favorable impression. Chaffee Earls Naishapur was breezed a hal fin :50. Trainer John B. McKee said: "Naishapur is not much of a work horse. Anyway, I believe in letting horses I train show speed in races rather than in trials. Throw out Naishapurs performance in the Fairmount Derby. He did not like the track and when he doesnt he refuses to extend himself." L. McDermott has been engaged to ride Windy City in the Derby. He trained well for the Kentucky Derby, and is close to his best form. Earl Sandes thoroughbreds, now en route from Belmont Park, are due Friday at Wa.-.ii-ington Park. Hermitage is the best in his outfit. Sande thinks he hurried his preparation too much, but now he is ready. The colt will start in the American Derby. Sande will ride him.
