RIVER, quick to begin, forced back several contenders while crossing to the inside in the opening quarter, then saved ground while maintaining a fair pace and won in hand. ADELOT, crowded back shortly after the start, followed close up after getting clear and. holding on well, outstayed the others. JUNIOR C. began slowly, but saved ground while working his way up and tired near the end. DAR-FUR, slow to get going, closed up ground with a belated rush. MISS TORCn began tiring after reaching the stretch. JOSEPH SABBATH lost his rider after meeting interference on the turn. TISHYBO, never far back, responded to severe pressure after reaching the stretch, where she benefited extensively by saving ground and, getting through on the inside of the leaders near the end, got up in the final strides. SOUTHLAND BELLE showed the most speed from the opening quarter, swerved out when entering the stretch, then continued to race wide and just failed to last. TEASPOON moved up fast on the extreme outside after reaching the stretch and closed resolutly. SKY HIGH came with a belated rush, but being caught in close quarters near the end, caused his loss. MABEL BASIL wni hard hustled throughout. MISS SUDDUTn showed speed, but bolted on the turn. PURPLE SAND began fast, but appeared to impede ADVANCE AGENT when drawing clear after a half mile and, saving ground thereafter, held the lead safe. LITTLE SCOUT raced in close quarters most of the way and finished fast after going wide in the stretch. REF.CIIWOOD. forced back after a half mile, finished resolutely and outstayed ADVANCE AfiENT. The latter, poorly ridden, held on fairly well after being pinched back on the second turn. RAGUS had early speed, but quit badly after reaching the stretch. The latter was blocked1 slightly shortly after the start, saved much ground, and responded gamely to pressure in the stretch but could not get to the winner. ROYAL JULIAN, rated back of the early pace, moved up fast when ready and, heading FAIRY MAIDEN before reaching the final eighth, held on stubbornly under good riding to outstay her. FAIRY MAIDEN followed in closest pursuit of the early pacemaker under steady restraint, moved into the lead when ready and held on gamely after being headed and was racing her best near the end. BROWN FLASH was slow to begin, showed improvement in speed after reaching the final three-eighths, and reduced his chances by bearing to the inside in the stretch. LANCER raced well. The latter, never far back, was in close quarters much of the way, but finished fast when clear and was wearing down the winner. KEITH had speed from the start, but tired in the final eighth. FIRE UNDER, allowed to drop far out of it. finished with a rush. BUSY FAIRY was poorly ridden. NOBLE WRACK tired. Scratched— 36614 = Chatson. 109.
