BABY BLUE, close to the leaders from the start, obtained a short lead after going half the way and held MISS LESTER safe in a driving finish. The latter held on with rare courage in the stretch run, but was not good enough to overtake the winner. SADDLE SKIRTS was close up to the stretch, then tired. IMITATOR quit. It was announced after the running of the first race that C. noward, Sr., owner of Baby Blue, would purchase outstanding options on his horse for 0, while the Leslie Stable agreed to pay for options on Miss Lester. SIRACODE began fast from an inner post position and, though racing wide in the stretch, responded gamely to hard urging and outlasted HAKSIIAAV. The latter was a factor from the start and was carried wide by the winner in the final drive. SHASTA SNOW showed early speed and, taken to the inside in the stretch, finished well. AT POST 3 minutes. Start good and slow. AVon driving; second and third the same. GOOD AND HOT gained steadily in the first half mile and, coming to the outside of the leaders in the stretch, obtained a short lead when straightened out for the final drive and was drawing away slowly at the end. SHASTA BULLET, a forward contender from the start, was subjected to punishment in the stretch and seemed to be tiring slightly at the end. LADY SETH, racing on the inside, was in close quarters several times and showed a fine performance. CROFTON tired and met with interference from SHASTA BULLET in the stretch drive. SHASTA NUT, off in a tangle, made up much ground and was going fastest of all at the end. PAT had the most early speed and raced AVHISKEY RUN into defeat, but tired near the end.
