NO SPECIAL FEATURE Filly Race Furnishes Most Interest at Havre Course. Irish Polly Proves Superiority-Over Betty Beau Weather Much Improved. HAVRE DE GRACE, Md., April 13. With fno special feature down for decision this afternoon, one of the best offerings was a " c five and a half furlongs dash, for three-year- old fillies, which brought out rather a good 1 band. It resulted in Irish Polly carrying the Dixiana silks to victory over T. J. Beau-champs Betty Beau, with Samuel D. Riddles 1 Red Cross Sister just catching Samuel Ross Poinciana to take third in the closing strides. Weather conditions had improved considerably when there was no rain and the thermometer had climbed up from the winter degrees that had prevailed. The track was still decidedly muddy and that kept some of the best horses out of competition and the short sprinting distances were in order. A crowd of goodly proportions was on hand and the sport was well received. In the filly dash, Irish Polly was good enough to force all the pace and through the final furlong she had her rivals soundly-beaten to lead Betty Beau over the line by ; something more than two lengths. And the Beauehamp filly was the only one to give a semblance of contest through the final quarter when she" was eight lengths before Red Cross Sister and Poinciana. The latter, a miss of tremendous speed, when right out with the winner in the early racing and the "pair of them were some four or five lengths before Betty Beau, which was third until the stretch was reached. In the run home Kennedy took- Betty Beau along on the inside and. while she made up some ground in her fruitless chase of Irish Polly, the daughter of Polymelian was at no time in danger of defeat. Red Cross Sister was only third because Poinciana had tired badly from her early effort racing with the winner and she surrendered in the closing strides. CAUSES DELAY AT POST. Snappy Snub had caused some delay at the post in this and she cut no figure in the running, while Venarock, after a flash of speed, dropped out of the running and Billie N. and Merry Mack were never contenders. Maiden juveniles of the plater variety met in the opening dash, at four and a half furlongs and H. E. Talbots Abduction, a son of Crimper and Resist, found the difficult going no handicap when he trailed out into a long early lead that never left the result in serious doubt. B. B. Rices Broad A. took second place, with William Garths Black Lula beating ZZrs. Walter M. Jeffords Cara-calla for third. Coltiletti lost no time taking the winner out from his opponents and, when nicely clear, lie simply steadied him along and readily maintained his advantage to be home the winner by three lengths. To the head of the stretch Caracalla was racing in second place and when Ambrose shook him up in an effort to catch the winner, the son of Golden Broom was not equal to the call. In the meantime the others were closing strongly and in the last eighth, when Ambrose saw no chance of winning with his mount, he did not. persevere. GUIDE RIGHT UNLUCKY. It appeared that Guide Right, which now races for the Branncastle Stable, was best of the three-year-olds that met in the second race, framed under claiming conditions, but the best he accomplished was to finish a distant second to Miss Blanche Watsons Chattering.. B. B. Rices Theo. Rochester was third and back of him followed Kitty Marie and Rod Rack, in the order named. "There was little change in these positions until rounding out of the back stretch. There Guide Right made a move that promised to carry him into the command. He was running over his company when, for some unexpected reason, Arnold took him up and he was soon last of the five that were racing. Swinging for home Rod Rack bore out badly, losing several lengths, Kitty Marie weakened suddenly and just as suddenly Chattering moved into command. From the half mile post home the filly had no trouble in drawing away to a lead of four lengths, which she enjoyed at the finish. Guide Right, in spite of the weird performance of Arnold, came through the others from the top of the stretch and finished in the deepest going on the inside and beat Theo. Rochester a length for second place. Continued on second page NO SPECIAL FEATURE Continued from first page. Montferrat, coming back for the first time since last fall, carried the popular silks of the Sagamore Stable to an easy victory in the third race, framed for platers. At the end, he was showing the way to Mrs. J. M. Blacks Toki, with R. L. Humphreys Cloudy third and George W. Foremans Equation beating Mrs. R. Pollards Gold Mint for fourth. There was much or possibly more interest in the running of the mile and seventy yards of the Mayflower which saw Woodcraft, an eligible .for both the Preakness and the Kentucky Derby, the winner. He is a son of Ormondale and Wood Violet in the B. B. Jones Audley Farm Stable. It was Frank Sansones Black Patricia that raced to second place, with A. G. Westons Snelboc saving third from Mrs. K. E. Hitts Sunvir, while Chatterwood, nominated for the Preakness from William Duponts Fox Catcher Farms Stable was next, while Expedite was pulled up in the running. Expedite caused some delay at the post and by his lunging unseated Morrison twice before he could be controlled in his stall. When the barrier arose he jumped in the air and had scant chance.
