THEYRE OFF AT AURORA TODAY Illinois Racing Season of 1930 Begins at Exposition Park Prospects Never Brighter for Most Successful Meeting Inaugural Handicap Opening Day Attraction . AURORA, 111., April 30. The Illinois racing season of 1930 will be inaugurated here at Exposition Park tomorrow, when a spring meeting of twenty-one days begins at the Fox River course. Virtually six months of continuous racing, with the exception of Sundays, will be conducted in this state under the jurisdiction of the Illinois Turf Association. Following Aurora, meetings will be held at Washington Park, Arlington Park, Lincoln Fields and Hawthorne, while down state at Collinsville, near St. Louis, the Fair-mount Park Jockey Club will entertain the people of that vicinity with forty-nine days racing. The inauguration tomorrow at Exposition Park will mark the eighth consecutive season of sport here and never before were conditions more auspicious for a successful meeting. For the opening day an excellent program of seven good races will be offered. The Inaugural Handicap, with fourteen eligibles, is the outstanding feature, with C. B. Irwins Morsun top weight, with 116 pounds. Film, San Carlos and Break of Dawn are considered the most formidable. The Paradise Stock Farm Stables representative is handicapped with 115 pounds, while San Carlos and Break of Dawn are scheduled to carry one pound less. The only factor needed to make the opening an unqualified success is a continuance of good weather. General manager Clifford Trimble has arranged every detail to provide comfort for the patrons, who will be greeted by an improved plant. TRACK IX GOOD CONDITIO". The racing strip has responded to the hard work of track superintendent Tim Smith and his crew and will be in good shape for opening day. Many look for the three-quarters track mark to be shattered in the Inaugural Handicap. The officials are all present. Martin Na-thanson, presiding steward, has been here for some days. He and Charles L. Trimble and Charles F. Henry will comprise the board of stewards. Francis Dunne and R. Leigh will be the judges, while Charles F. Henry will be racing secretary and Harry Morrissey the starter. Racing will start promptly at 2:15 p. m., Chicago daylight savings time, and trains will leave Union Station at regular intervals, unloading tlfeir passengers at the park gates. The Heiser and Cole Gate has been given an experimental test for the past week during the schooling hours, in order to detect any defects that would be detrimental in its success as a starting device. Both that and the Bahr gate will be used here. On account of the laxity of many jockeys to file application in due time only eleven were granted licenses by noon today. The following riders applications have been sanctioned: P. Roonie, J. Bollero, R. Ayraud, H. Jones, W. Dellow. S. Collins, B. Carson, L. Logan, A. Colvin, F. C. Smith and O. Neal.
