Star o Morn Takes Measure of Gerard in Fourth Race at Pimlico Track Fast. BALTIMORE, Md., April 30. The Sagamore Stables Balko, five-year-old son of Omar Khayyam Rahu, was victorious in the Jennings Handicap, Pimlicos feature race today and by his triumph, avenged his defeat by The Heathen in the Harford Handicap, the Pierce cblorbearer finishing third to Balko this afternoon. In the Harford Handicap Balko was asked to give The Heathen three pounds, but today they raced at level weights. E. B. McLeans veteran star, Jock, separated Balko and The Heathen. Balko and The Heathen were coupled in the betting, both being trained by J. H. Stotler. The fractional time of the race was :22, :47, 1 :111s ; the fastest for the distance run on any of the Maryland tracks this spring. The net value to the winner was ,000. The Maryland Jockey Club offered its patrons an attractive program, headed by the Jennings Handicap and having two juvenile races at the beginning of the days sport. The fourth race, with allowances, attracted only a small field, but furnished a good contest. Mrs. Walter M. Jeffords stable got into the limelight when the Golden Broom filly St. Agnes carried the pink and yellow hoops to victory in the first race. Some good looking fillies were among the dozen that went to the post in the race, the conditions of which called for maidens. It was a race over a half mile and Queen Herod and Over Shady had shown up well in their previous efforts. St. Agnes was too good for them, however, and when it came to the race she dominated the situation throughout. Ambrose sent her to the front soon after the start and, after carrying Queen Herod along at a fast pace for the first quarter, she shook off opposition to draw away into a commanding lead. In the stretch she increased her advantage with every stride until she had a lead of four lengths. Over Shady, after a rather slow beginning and racing wide on the turns, finished in resolute fashion to wear Queen Herod down and in a driving finish get up in the final strides to beat the latter by a head for second place. The Maryland Jockey Club provided two races for two-year-olds and the second of these was run as the second race. The Rancocas Stable furnished the winner in Glidelia, a bay filly by Lucullite Dolia. It was the first two-year-old winner that Frank Taylor saddled on the Maryland tracks this spring. Glidelia was ridden by L. Fator, which helped some. Beginning rapidly, Glidelia bounded to the front and drew away into a lead of a length and a half. Spirit River was second and Summer Day, slow to begin, was fifth. Making the turn for home, Glidelia increased her advantage to two lengths over Spirit River. It was in the stretch run Workman sat down and rode a determined finish on the Whitney filly, Continued on thirteenth page. BALKO TURNS TABLES Continued from first page. Summer Day, and the manner in which she responded made it plainly evident that the daughter of Maude Muller would not be long in making good the nice things said of her by the clockers and stable connections. Under a drive Summer Day finished with determination and at the end was beaten two lengths, Glidelia Avinning by a scant length from Spirit River and the same distance separated the latter from Summer Day. Rejuvenation, son of Hourless, carried 121 pounds and scored in runaway fashion when he beat a field of cheap platers in the third race. This Avas a race of one mile and a furlong, for Avhich C. R. Fleischmans Euphrates A-ent to the post faA-orite. When it came to the running, Euphrates dropped out of it and Avas far back most of the journey. RejUAenation, racing in bold fashion from the start, drew away into a long lead in the first three furlongs. On the back stretch Quackenbush took him in hand and. when Fair Albert made his move at the head of the stretch, Rejuvenation had plenty in resere to stall off his challenge and at the end win by two lengths and a half. Blazing Cinch finished third, eight lengths back of Fair Albert. Star o Morn, the good looking son of Vul-cain, scored another victory for the Black Dot Stable Avhen he won the fourth race. This Avas a race of one mile and seventy yards. Ridden by G. Arnold and a strong favorite, Star o Morn made good in handsome fashion Avhen he beat Sunvir by two lengths and a half. The followers of the Widener Stable Avere confident that Gerard would reerse the order of the finish the other day Avhen Star o Morn beat him. "When the start came Eaby immediately got busy on Gerard and in the run around the first turn squeezed through next to the rail and hustled his mount to the front. Henever gave Gerard a breathing spell. Arnold, using better judgment, took Star o Morn back and 1 waited until making the turn for home before calling on the latter. When asked to run, Star o Morn responded Avith a burst of speed and caught and passed Gerard without effort. Increasing his advantage in the stretch run, he won at the end Avith something in reserve. Sunvir, in a driving finish with Shipmaster, beat the latter by a length and a half for second place. Gerard tired badly and Avas beaten off.
