THISTLE DOWNS MEETING Cleveland Track to Open on July 22 for Twenty-Eight Days of Racing. BALTIMORE. Md., May 8.— Thistle Downs, Clevelands million-dollar track, will open July 22 and close August 22, making twenty-eight days of thoroughbred racing. This announcement was made today by Joseph A. Murphy after a conference with an authorized representative of the club, who came to Baltimore to meet him. On account of conflict with the Hawthorne dates, judge Murphy will be unable to personally conduct the meeting. He will, however, answer for the meeting and open it before returning to Chicago for the Hawthorne inaugural. Judge Murphy announced that he had secured the following official family: Stewards — Joseph A. Murphy. William Longo, W. J. Brennan. Starter — James F. Milton. Racing secretary and placing judge — Eugene Bury. Clerk of scales and placing judge — Sidney Brown. Paddock judge — Charles Wilson. Patrol judge— Tom Day. While judge Murphy is in Chicago, starter Milton will move into the stewards stand and E. T. Welter will do the starting. Mr. Milton has had wide experience in racing and should make an admirable steward.
