TEN IN KENTUCKY OAKS Brilliant Array of Three-Year-Old Fillies to Contest for Laurels in Old Established Fixture. LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 8.— The Kentucky Oaks, as old as the Kentucky Derby, and long one of the most coveted of the stakes for three-year-old fillies, comes up for its fifty-seventh running as the atractive feature of tomorrows racing at Churchill Downs. Ten outstanding equine queens were entered for the fixture this morning, and the brilliant field may furnish one of the most interesting contests in the record of the prize. Barring a muddy track, all may answer the call to the starting post, and the contest for the approximately 3,500 in money and valuable trophy will ensue over the testing route of the one mile and one-eighth. On the strength of her almost sensational seasonal debut here a few days back, Cousin Jo is expected to give the Betty Derr — Lady Dean combinations the sternest sort of a tussle for the post of favoritism and Plumage would have an excellent chance with a muddy track prevailing. Under pleasant conditions, tomorrows Oaks program is certain to attract the largest crowd of the meeting, and no few early arrivals among enthusiasts attracted by the Kentucky Derby, to be run a week later, will witness the battle of the fillies.
