CAERLEON SOLD FOR 0,000 « Son of Sir Galahad III. Star of Cochran Sale. • Epithet Sold to Warm Stable for 0,000— The Beasel Brings 8,500; Flying Heels, 4,500. ♦ NEW YORK, N. Y., May 23.— Caerleon, a bay son of Sir Gallahad III. — Fairy Wand, a half-brother to Genie and Epithet, was the outstanding star of the estate of Gifford A. • Cochran dispersal sale, held in the paddock . before the running of the first race today , by the Fasig-Tipton Company. Caerleon has never started and, according to work watchers and others interested in . the vendue, he was expected to bring a . much bigger price than his better known brother Epithet. Bidding on this fellow ■ was exceedingly brisk. He was led into the ring and the first bid offered was 0,000. This jumped up fast and after passing the 0,000 mark showed no let-up. Frank E. [ Brown was one of the active bidders against J. H. Whitney. The final bid made offered no increase and the horse was sold to the Wheatley Stable. Epithet, winner of the Hopeful Stakes last j summer, was the fourth horse of the sale led into the ring. He was sold to the Warm ! Stable of Hangar and Mason for 0,000. Epithet was considered a disappointment as far as price was concerned. It was generally anticipated that he would fetch a much bigger figure. The Beasel, a smart miss last summer, realized a big price. She was ; sold to T. M. Cassidy for 8,500 after spirited bidding. J. J. Curtis paid 4,500 j for Flying Heels. A total of 65,400 was realized for the J twenty-eight head sold by the Cochran Estate, for an average of ,908. The estate ] of the late John E. Madden sold fifty head for 8,700. The top price of this vendue was paid by A. H. Cosden, who gave 0,000 ■ for Logos, a son of Infinite — Grecian. The bidding on this band, due to the late hour, was not what was anticipated. The crowd • had thinned out by this time and several bargains were secured by professional buyers. ! A summary of the Gifford A. Cochran 1 ojjio follows* Aldershot, F. A. Griffith, ,100; Banjo, M.
