HOMEWOOD, 111., June 4.— One of the outstanding fields of three-year-olds assembled since the Kentucky Derby is scheduled to meet at the seven-eighths of a mile distance in the Hazel Crest Purse, feature on the Friday program at Washington Park, and a preliminary test of candidates for the 0,000 added American Derby to be renewed at that course on June 20. Those entered include: Spanish Play, winner of the Louisiana Derby; Lightning Bolt, triumphant in the Florida Derby; Burning Up, victor in the Derby at Oriental Park; Insco, Oswego and Knights Call. The latter two, among the leading western juveniles last year, will be making their first appearances in some time, Oswego being away from colors since last fall and Knights Call since his unfortunate injury at Agua Caliente last winter. The crack three-year-olds are brought together under only slightly fluctuating weights, Spanish Play, Oswego, Insco, Lightning Boit and Burning Up carrying 110 pounds each, while Knights Call, Morpheus and Master Toney get in with 108 pounds each, and Annapolitan 106 pounds. The return to competition of Oswego and Knights Call, popular and capable home-breds of Gallaher and Combs and the Audley Farm, adds great importance to the race, and if they come through effectively may be regarded as formidable candidates for the American Derby, the next important objective of Spanish Play, Insco and Lightning Bolt. Their recent private trials indicated no loss of ability. Knights Call clicked off a half mile in .47% handily, and Oswego a like distance in :49 easily, over the Home-wood track Thursday morning. In the order of post positions, and with weights and probable jockeys, the Hazel Crest fied follows: PP. Horse. Wt. Jockey. 1— Spanish Play 110 C. Landolt 2— Master Toney 108 J.
