t LATONIA TURF NOTES 1 4 $ - LATONIA, Ky., June 4. Three horses comprised the shipment J. H. Nichelson brought from Pimlico. They ; are two two-year-olds and a maiden three-year-old. r Lon Bellew, after a short visit to his home here, departed for Washington Park Thursday. The former trainer of the J. C. Ellis horses is considering several offers for his services. Arthur Cole, well known in racing circles, was jubilant over the rapid recovery of his wife, who has been seriously ill at the Good Samaritan Hospital. The eight horses of the Audley Farm Stable, which trainer Kay Spence left at Churchill Downs, are due at Latonia the latter part of the week. Three older horses and five two-year-olds will comprise the shipment. John Walters returned from Lexington, where he went to inspect the yearlings quartered at the farm. T. H. McCaffrey, who has six horses here that wintered at Miami, stated that the juveniles which went amiss during the winter season, were now fully recovered and would be ready for the J_atonia meeting. Among the horsemen already planning to take in the Dade Park meeting are Tom Sanford, trainer of the Brown Hotel Stable, and T. L. Pierce, who has a public stable. The work of applying new roofing on the barns was completed today and track superintendent Charles Nolte expects to have structures painted and white-washed before the opening of the meeting. W. D. "Butch" Covington arrived from Churchill Downs with the three-year-old Judge Leuders and Harvest Sun and the two-year-olds Side Step and Hasta Luego. The latter is an eligible for the Clipsetta Stakes, while Side Step will be prepared for the Cincinnati Trophy. They shipped and unloaded in good condition and were quartered in the barn formerly occupied by the Parkview Stable. W. "Monk" Overton, who is training the Kenton Farm Stable horses, sent the Centennial Stakes winner General Haldeman and a two-year-old to Kenton Farm to be turned out. General Haldeman went amiss while being prepared for the Latonia meeting and will be out for the remainder of the season. Overton has six for owner Robert West, five two-year-olds and the plater Padona. Mr. West, who recently returned from a business trip, was a visitor at the track and was very pleased when several Of the youngsters galloped fast three-eighths. R. P. Lucas took up the two-year-old San-chevonne, which was turned out at Keene-land Stud last fall. He is preparing Wise Cross for her Clipsetta Stakes engagement and also has La Reoyu, winner at Havana. W. H. Buckner, former trainer for the Longridge Stable and W. G. Yanke, has the horses Brown Boy, Red Raven, Jim Jep and Springtime here. Buckner expects to send Red Raven to Washington Park in the next few days and at the conclusion of that meeting he will be returned to Latonia.
