RUNS FAST THREE-QUARTERS « Malolo Equals Track Record in Feature at Bainbridge. ♦ Cleveland Plain Dealer Handicap Days Main Attraction — Lassa Accounts for Purse in Sixth. ♦ CLEVELAND, Ohio, June 13.— Malolo carried the Blue Star Stable colors to victory in the Cleveland Plain Dealer Handicap, run as the fifth race and serving as the principal attraction at Bainbridge Park this afternoon. Russ Padgett saddled the winner of the second portion of the purse in Prometheus and Frank Serembas Etonardo was a close third. The race was run in 1:11 flat, equaling the track record. Malolo carried 121 pounds and his performance was creditable. Flag Bearer led the way to the far turn closely followed by Malolo and Etonardo. After leaving the back stretch Malolo took command and was never in trouble thereafter, although jockey Cavens rode him out in the final furlong. Prometheus moved up steadily on the outside in the stretch and in the final drive outlasted Etonardo, which had no excuses. Flag Bearer continued in second place until midway in the stretch, but tired rapidly when called upon during the final drive. Crash showed a fair effort, but the others were never prominent. The sport was staged under favorable conditions and the half-holiday crowd swelled the attendance. The weather became hot and sultry, with rain threatening near the end of the afternoon. After racing under restraint to the far turn, Lassa passed Dixie Dan for the lead in the sixth race, and had enough in reserve at the end to withstand a bold challenge from Enthusiastic. The winner was skillfully ridden by the apprentice jockey L. Fage. On Trial came fast in the stretch and nosed out the tiring Dixie Dan for the minor award in the final strides. Jockey H. Roble, the leading winning rider at this meeting, commenced the afternoon auspiciously when he piloted Top Cloud to victory in the initial dash. Roble sent his mount up on the outside of Toltec, the pacemaker, entering the stretch and after disposing of the latter withstood a bold challenge from Chester during the closing stages. Toltec barely saved third from the fast-finishing Captains Daughter. Jockey Roble made it a double when he won the second race with Bocaratone. The Potter gelding acted unduly at the post and began slowly as usual. Once settled into his stride, and after going the first quarter mile, Roble made his move and finished fast on the outside and overhauled the leaders midway in the stretch. Thereafter the result was beyond doubt. Klingstone closed an immense gap to beat the others home for second. In the final drive Delma Dunn saved third from Captain J. S., which raced in close quarters on the inside most of the distance. L. L. Lycans Sir Raoul took the lead at once in the third race, and, displaying fine speed, raced Crushed Stone into defeat in the first half. For the remainder of the journey he held command of the situation, winning unextended. Stampdale as easily disposed of the others after making the far turn, showing marked improvement over his recent races here. Steadily improving his position, Double O. eventually outgamed the tiring Crushed Stone for the minor award. L. L. Lycan made it a double when Anitas Pal accounted for the the fourth race, and it also marked the second success of jockey A. Pendergrass during the afternoon. South-tour showed the way to the stretch head. Fred Almy then moved up and took command when straightened out. Anitas Pal made his move at the same time, and, closing steadily under mild urging, wore down Fred Almy through the final sixteenth. Southtour barely saved third from the fast closing Our Cherrycote. Tempus failed to display his accustomed speed and ceased to be a serious factor after going half the way. Cloido caused a long post delay, breaking through the barrier on four occasions and racing away a furlong each time before he could be taken under control. After the start came he was always out-paced. * ♦ _
