TIVERTON, starting quickly from an inner position, went to the front at once and, showing good early speed, held on gamely when challenged in the stretch and won under urging. EPONA dashed into contention on the outside in the first eighth, challenged gamely in the stretch, but could not get up. STAMBUL raced fairly close up throughout and held the others safe. FRIEND JOHN was racing well at the end. SIR MICHAEL was tiring. SILENT SHOT and UPON were in early trouble. TENNYWOOD followed the early pace of BAY LEAF closely from the start and, taking the lead near the end, won when McCoy outrode Richard. BAY LEAF showed good speed in pacemaking and held on fairly well when put to a drive, but could not last. BUZZY BOO reached contention soon after the start and raced well thereafter. DIFFERENT improved his position gradually and was going well at the end. BAD NEWS and BOOTLAND BELLE were shuffled back soon after the start. BAG O ROSES was away slowly. LAWYER was in close quarters in the stretch. DRURY acted badlv at the barrier and was started from outside the machine. FORTUNATE YOUTH came again after meeting eailv interference and outlasted PORTMANTEAU. The latter could not keep up early, but raced well in the stretch. UNCOMMON GOLD came from far back in the stretch. HYMAN, away slowly, reached contention after a quarter, then tired. TANNERY was blocked on the far turn and lost all chance. HOT SHOT quit badlv. JEANNE WACHS, after meeting interference early, saved much ground on the stretch turn, only to tire thereafter. WATER PORT tired. CRESCENT CITY improved his position in the first quarter, challenged gamely to get to the front after going half the distance, but was not good enough. AURICA showed speed and held on fairly well. ERIN GO BRAGH was badly outrun for half a mile, but closed a big gap. JACK MURPHY was blocked on the first turn and dropped far back.
