BUTLER SCORES DOUBLE Apprentice and Forewarned Triumph at Old Aqueduct Course. jjockey Robertson Shares in Honors : Blind Bowboy Finishes Second Bolilee Wins Opener. NEW YORK, .N. Y., June 22. Apprentice, the home-bred three-year-old son of Vulcain and Teachers Pet, carried the silks of James .Butler to a well-earned victory in the Myrtle Claiming Stakes at Aqueduct today. This added just ,450 to his earnings. It completed a double for the master of Eastview Farm, for in a previous race Forewarned had won over a band of platers. Alfred Robertson shared in the double for he had the mount on both and his ride in each race ,was an important factor. Weather and track conditions were all that could have been desired for the sport, but the crowd was a small one, though not lacking in enthusiasm. In the Myrtle Stakes, it was generally agreed that Blind Bowboy, ridden by his owner, G. H. "Pete" Bostwick, was the class of the field and he was in the thick of the fight most of the way to finish in second place, with Morton L. Schwartz Barcelona Pete beating Frank E. Browns Condescend for third. AWAY TO GOOD START. The start was a good one and Blind Bowboy was first to show his head in front, .with Renaissance at his throat latch and A la Carte following closely. Apprentice ,was not far back and then came Barcelona .Fete and Paramour, while Frigate Bird was last. Blind Bowboy did not hold his lead long when Coucci rushed to the front with Renaissance and the three-year-old was soon two lengths clear. Barcelona Pete chased after the son of Master Charlie and, racing past Blind Bowboy, moved into second place, but Mr. Bostwick was sitting still on his mount and it was evident the son of Pinard .could move up at the first asking. Renaissance did not last long in the lead and then Barcelona Pete took up the pace making to open up a good lead. A la Carte moved up and just headed Blind Bowboy, but Robertson had Apprentice outside of .these and the Butler colt was galloping strongly. Barcelona Pete was still showing the way as he turned into the long stretch. .There, A la Carte tired badly, but Blind Bowboy was holding his position when Rob-jertson made his move with Apprentice. A LA CARTE LAME. The Butler colt, as he charged down the middle of the course, swerved over slightly and, for a few strides, Blind Bowboy was in close quarters, then Apprentice raced past to be the winner by a length and a half. Blind Bowboy had saved second place by two lengths and Barcelona Pete was just a jieck before Condescend, which was gaining with a belated rush. Paramour ran out badly, as he has in other races, while A la Carte came out of the race badly lamed. Bolilee, under a hustling ride by "Hank" Mills, was winner of the opening five furlongs dash, for plater juveniles. He won by a comfortable margin over J. H. Louch-heims Dorsays and J. B. Belks Axentea was a distant third, beating Exiled for that part of the purse. Andy Schuttingers Bonnie Prince had to overcome considerable interference to be the winner of the mile of the second race, that engaged nine platers. He scored over Colossal, from the Pauline Stable, with J. B. Belks Flaming Mamie saving third from fTryandagain. Birds Nest, owned by the Greentree Stable, was shipped to Lexington, Ky., where she will enter the stud.
