i EVENING BEGINS TRAINING Works Easy Mile at Arlington Park Jamestown Out for a Long Gallop and Appears Ready. ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, 111., June 22. For the first time in three weeks George D. Wideners smart three-year-old filly Evening was called upon for speed this morning and she obliged trainer A. J. Joyner, who arrived Tuesday from the East with Jamestown and other horses, with an easy trial of 1:48 for one mile, over the main course," at Arlington Park. The veteran eastern horseman expressed himself as well pleased with Evenings present condition and predicted she would be ready to run in the Arlington Oaks on July 2, when she may be called upon to meet Top Flight, Suntica, Canron, Kakapo and other prominent contemporaries. Evening injured herself by colliding with the fence a few hours before she was to run in the Illinois Oaks several weeks ago, but she recovered fully and Joyner expects no trouble in getting her ready for her Arlington engagements, which also include the Classic on July 16. After he had sent the Florida Derby and Chesapeake winner through her paces, Joyner brought Jamestown and four others out on the track for minor exercise. It marked the first time of the year that the 1930 juvenile champion had stepped on a major race course, but, nevertheless, the other horsemen and early morning visitors at the northwest side course pronounced his physical appearance as satisfactory. Jamestown has been training at his owners farm near Philadelphia and he will require but one sharp workout to be in readiness for his effort in the Arlington Inaugural Handicap, feature of Mondays program in which he is expected to meet several other high class performers including Gallant Fox and Poly-dorus. No horses arrived at Arlington today from the East, but the shipments of the Le Mar Stock Farm and Warm Stable are scheduled to arrive Thursday. The Nut and Epithet are the prominent members of the latter string and they may form an entry in the Inaugural Handicap. There were several stable arrivals by van from Washington Park during the day, however,
