I 1 ! 1 J 1 i : SKID MOUNT ROYAL WINNER Easily Defeats Shaun Padraic and Calzona in the Cinema de Paris Handicap. MONTREAL, Que., Aug. 22. The consistent and durable Skid was winner of the best race offered on the second day of the Mount Royal meeting. The son of Upset defeated Shaun Padraic and Calzona with little difficulty in the Cinema de Paris Handicap at a mile and a sixteenth. Rated off the early pace by F. Case, while Shaun Padraic was showing the way, Skid moved to the outside of the leader after rounding the far turn and, though racing on the outside on the stretch turn, drew away to a two-length lead, with Shaun Padraic holding off Calzona by less than a length. With fine weather and track conditions, a surprisingly large Monday crowd was on hand, over 4,000 passing through the gates. One Grand, an outsider, led throughout in a six furlongs dash to handily defeat the veteran campaigner, Queen Towton, and River Lee. The winner was away in front and disposed of an early challenge from the fast beginner, Balai dOr, after which he saved ground to stand off a stretch turn bid from River Lee. Queen Towton, after racing back in the pack early, closed with a rush in the stretch to beat River Lee out of the place.
