WILL FINISH TRAINING HERE Faireno Is Due Today for Cup Race ; Equipoise and Mate May Leave Wednesday. CICERO, 111., Aug. 22 Faireno, William Woodwards fine three-year-old, which was returned victorious in the Hawthorne Handicap earlier in the meeting, will arrive in Chicago Tuesday on a second western invasion, this time in quest of the rich Hawthorne Gold Cup, which will have its fifth running next Saturday, August 27. The winner of several stakes this season left Saratoga today, after working a mile and a quarter in the easiest fashion between the races Saturday. That Faireno will be a dangerous factor in the Gold Cup, there is no doubt. The colt is extremely partial to the Hawthorne racing strip and owner Woodward was anxious that he be shipped a few days before the race in order that his final training preparations would be made on the scene of action. Word reached here today from Saratoga that Equipoise was slightly indisposed and would not be worked again until Wednesday. His trial on that day will determine whether or not he will be shipped West, it is reported. Should his mid-week move prove satisfactory, he will likely entrain on Wednesday night and arrive late Thursday. Mate, A. C. Bostwicks American Derby and Arlington Classic winner of 1931, is likely to leave on Wednesday and, should trainer Hopkins decide to send Equipoise, the pair will likely be shipped together. Mate, so far this season, has been a failure, but reports from the East indicate that he has been showing speed in trials and, with a professional rider in the saddle instead of Mr. G. H. Bostwick, who has been riding him, a change may be brought about.
