MODESTO, away slowly, was rushed up fast, but had too much taken out of her and tired in the final quarter. JOE MACAW was never able to reach the leaders. GRIMACE was never a factor. DEEDIE moved up stoutly leaving, the back stretch, but was never able to threaten the winner. SCHOONER, well up, came again in the last sixteenth to wear down BOSCOBEL for third. The latter followed the winner closest in the early stages, but weakened badly in the last three-eighths. PAT GAIETY and MAGYAR were never prominent.
