SUNIDAYS INAUGURAL Three-Year-Old Filly Captures First Exposition Park Feature. Racing Fans of Aurora and Vicinity Turn Out for Return of Sport Drombo Has Close Call. AURORA, 111., Sept. 3. Exposition Park opened its autumn meeting this afternoon before a fairly good-sized crowd and those that attended were provided with some interesting sport. Although the special trains from Chicago failed to transport as many people as in former years, due no doubt to the opposition provided by Lincoln Fields, the sport lovers of Aurora, Joliet, Elgin and other surrounding cities were on hand and helped make up a gathering of about 6,000. The racing strip was in good condition and the weather, while cloudy, was pleasant. Manager Ed Carruthers expressed himself as being well satisfied with the attendance. He said: "The turn-out of the fans to Exposition Park on opening day pleased the directors and we will carry the present meeting through to what we hope to be a successful conclusion. We expect a -fine turn-out Labor Day and with two ladies days each week as an added attraction, we feel that we will not be lacking in support." The feature race was the Autumn Inaugural and although but four horses went postward they furnished an interesting contest. Suniday, Audley Farm cast-off which, now races for L. Grana, was the winner while The Point, heavily backed favorite, was second, and Golden Prince finished third. Suniday got the best of a poor start and racing to the front at once was never headed although racing to the middle of the track at the stretch turn. The Point, off slowly, was tiring at the finish, but managed to last long enough to hold Golden Prince. Out Bound was last. Suniday was ridden by jockey "J. Orecchia and paid 2.54. She ran the three-quarters distance in 1:12. Anna Adelia staged a strong stretch run to win the opening race. Eight two-year-olds competed and Get Ready, heavily backed favorite, made the pace with Gertrude V. close up. Entering the stretch, Get Ready showed signs of tiring and Anna Adelia passed him to win going away. Night Jasmine, although blocked in the stretch, was good enough to be second. Get Ready finished third. The distance was five and a half furlongs. Continued on thirty-second page. SUNDAYS INAUGURAL Continued from first page. The largest field of the day went to the post in the second race and the finish was very close with Miss Perfection nosing out a decision over Playbill. Miss Perfection, ridden by jockey C. E. Allen, remained close to the pace set by Scone, the favorite, in the early stages and held on well. Playbill closed ground on the outside and would have been an almost certain winner in another stride, while Scone dropped back to third place in the final furlong. The winner received considerable support, while Playbill was an outsider. Outer Harbor staged a strong stretch run to win the third race from the favored Andromeda. The latter went to the front early and made the pace, but when it came to a drive in the late stages of the contest, Outer Harbor had the most in reserve "and was going away. Third money was earned by Knockabout. The three horses to finish in the money attracted the most attention from the players, and naturally the pay-off was rather small. Drombo, heavily backed favorite, finished in front in the fourth race, but he was not such a certainty as the wagering on him would indicate. The young Nevada Stock Farm gelding was forced to do his best to defeat Monks Bela and had the latter not been in some trouble in the stretch, she might have made matters more interesting. Monks Bela set the early pace and after being headed by Drombo on the far turn, gamely stuck to her task. Neel made a mistake in trying to get to the inside of the leader in the stretch and when blocked was forced to take up, but Monks. Bela raced well and was pressing Drombo at the finish. Indian Mist, much the best of the others was third.
