It is welcome news that the blue and white polka dot silks of the Dorwood Stable, nom-de-course of Victor Emanuel, are not to be missing from our race tracks next year. Trainer J. P. "Sammy" Smith, as in the past, will train the Dorwood Stable horses, and he bid in five yearlings for his old patron at the Saratoga sales. These purchases included a half-brother to the smart sprinter, The Beasel. He is a gray-roan colt by Eternal, from Antipodes, by Hoi Herode; a sister to Fredrick and Gloritone, a bay filly by The Porter, from Slow and Easy, by Colin; a bay colt by Crusader, from Miss Fortune, by All Gold; a half-brother to the speedy Sandy Bill, a brown colt by Morvich, from Sweet Mary, by Goldfinch, and a black filly by High Time, from Nobility. The speedster Morstone, a four-year-old son of Morvich and Mornaw, that ran many excellent races in this country last year, before being shipped to England, where in three starts this season he failed to get in the money, will be returned to his native land and again he placed in trainer Smiths care. Morstnoe may be accompanied here by Totaig, the Royal Hunt Cup and Lingfield Park Stakes winner. Totaig, a smart three-year-old up to a distance of one mile, has borne the Emanuel silks to two stake victories in seven starts this season. On one of his other races, he finished third to the smart three-year-old Toloadden and Baland-shar in the Union Jack Stakes at Liverpool. Last year Totaig in seven starts won once, and was three times second and once third. Tis success was in the Manton Plate at Newbury, while he was the runner-up in the Toy Plate and Henry VIII. Plate, both run at Hurst Park, and finished third to Miracle and Inverman in the Gimcrack Stakes at York. Bred in England by Sir Keith Fraser and foaled on March 19, 1929, Totaig is a brown son of the useful racer Dawson City a son of Spearmint, now at the stud in South Africa and Miss Carlin, a daughter of Le-mond a son of Desmond that was imported to Australia, where he is one of the leading sires, from Carlings, by St. Petersburg, from Carlin, by Cittabob, from Lauretta, by Petrarch.
