GEAUGA LAKE, Ohio, Sept. 3 The winning streak of the two-year-old Odd .Star, of the Bronnenberg Stable, was checked today when Friend Charley, a gelded son of Sir Greysteel, and himself the possessor of an enviable stretch of consecutive victories, won the Wheatman Newsstand Purse, at three-quarters of a mile, under allowance conditions. Friend Charley was making his first start on this track, having been shipped here from Niagara Falls, where he had rounded out a streak of four straight, todays making his fifth in a row. He and Odd Star were the top-weights, with 121 pounds up. Odd Star cut out the pace until the last" sixteenth and finished a tiring colt as Friend Charley came up on the inside with a rush and reached the lead just in time. The three-quarters was run in 1:12. Most Always, a maiden, made a strong finish to beat Sir Michael, Untimely and the others. Jockey demons continued his winning form when he brought Sugarland home winner in the stretch in the opener. Miss Joan, the pacemaker, barely lasted to save second from Annete B., a keen factor throughout. Silent Vote, closing courageously on the outside in the stretch, overhauled Lightning Girl in the last seventy yards of the second race. Play Choice, a keen factor to the stretch, barely saved third. Jockey J. Dupuy piloted his second winner of the afternoon in Zode, which made a runaway of the third race. Friar always held the remainder safe. Bob F. barely saved third from Donup, which closed with a belated rush in the stretch. Dorothy Hicks came back to the ranks of the winners with the decision of the fourth race, which was at three-quarters of a mile. The Star Master filly was under light weight and she went to the front early. Ole-mah Sunshine followed along closely atid beat the others home. , French Maid ran a good race, but was tiring near the finish as Mailliw came fast on the inside.
