DAILY DOUBLE CAPTURES DADE Introduction of Combination Play Scores Hit at Kentucky Track. Unfavorable Track Conditions Reduce Days Feature to Three-Horse Race Axtel Surprise Winner. HENDERSON, Ky.f Sept. 3. With heavy showers since late yesterday until nearing racing time today, the Dade Park racing strip was in its worst condition of the meeting for todays program. The adverse footing caused numerous scratches this morning and the cancellation of the fourth race. A two-year-old race was substituted for the third race and the regular third race was run as the fourth. For the first time the daily double system of wagering was used on a Kentucky track this afternoon and if the wagering today by this system could be used as a criterion, it will be highly successful during the remaining days of the meeting. Due to the heavy demands for the tickets on the double, which included" the second and third races, it was necessary to give an additional fifteen minutes between the running of the first and second races. The Dade Park Handicap, which featured the program, was robbed of its expectant glamor when scratches reduced the starting field to three and took from it a meeting between Canron, the winner of the Governors Handicap, and Rusty, which won the Inaugural. However, the trio that accepted for the mile test and the only remaining programed feature of the meeting, provided a good race. The Dade Park was meant as a preparation for the Labor Day Handicap, Monday, but due to the change in track conditions, the racing secretary was unable to fill the holiday attraction. The W. W. Vaughn stable furnished the second consecutive disappointment of the afternoon when Mecat succumbed to Dever-eaux Brothers Axtel in the final drive of the three-quarters second event, that engaged a limit field of two-year-olds. Sweet Flag was third. The Vaughn colorbearer rushed into the lead soon after the break and, after racing into a long lead in the opening half mile, gave way gradually when Morrison brought the winner up on the outside in the final drive. Sweet Flag, after racing in a contending position throughout, was unable to reach the leaders, although much the best of the nine others. Sunlow, which received stanch support, dropped out of it soon after the start. Sylvester Longs Worthys Pride provided a mild upset in the first event when she proved best of six other two-year-olds. Boston Common was second, with High Diver third. Little Goblin, which received the bulk of the support, was on her bad behavior at the post, unseating jockey McCoy before the start and then quitting badly after showing the way the opening half. The winner came up on the outside to catch Boston Common, which took command when Little Goblin relinquished the lead.
