GUNFIRE, racing in his best form and alertly handled, was away fast, quickly drew clear and, rated along to the stretch, withstood ASPHODEL, though tiring badly near the end., ASPHODEL, a factor from the start, held on well under strong riding and was wearing down the winner. LANIER began well, was steadied along for half a mile, then tired under pressure. PINK SLIPPER held on well. HIGH DIVER was under strong urging for half a mile. RED CINDERS began very slowly and closed fast. TOWN LIMIT dropped out of it on the turn, showing a poor performance.
