PHOTOGRAPH FINISH OF RACES Movies of All Eaces at New Santa SantaAnita Anita Track to Decide First FirstThree Three Horses NEW YORK N Tr May 9 Dr Charles H Strub vicepresident and general man ¬ ager of the Los Angeles Turf Club was an interested visitor at Jamaica Tuesday He told graphically of the work going on in building the new Santa Anita track to be operated by his club and promised it would be ready well before Christmas Day the opening day for the first meeting Dates have already been assigned for a season to continue until February 23 Associated with Dr Strub is Hal Roach j and they are the prime movers in the new racing venture The course being con ¬ structed is to be laid out along magnificent lines and it will contain many novel fea ¬ tures Dr Strub explained that the timing of races would be done mechanically to onethousandth of a second secondThe The course is to be equipped with towers two in the grandstand and a third in the infield where moving pictures will be taken of every race It is in this fashion that finishes will be decided Two minutes after the finish of each race the placing judges will be furnished with an actual photograph of the finish and it will be required that they announce no decision until this photo is furnished furnishedThese These are just some of the innovations that will prevail at the new grounds when the season opens and should they prove of as much advantage as is expected Dr Strub said they would be glad to pass them along to other racing associations associationsIt It was pointed out that while there will be a delay of two minutes before the order of the finish would be shown it would mean nothing for no finish is official until the red board is up and it always takes at least two minutes for the riders to weigh in after the race raceThe The new racing ground is on the old Lucky Baldwin Ranch but the site is not where there have been other attempts to build a course It is closely adjacent to the old Santa Anita course that many years ago furnished Los Angeles with excellent sport
