I COUCCI STARS AT JAMAICA Pilots Three Winners Including Good Advice Feature Victor Austin Colorbearer Accounts for Rosedale Handicap With Pairbypalr Second Weather CooL NEW YORK N Y May 9 Mrs James Austins Good Advice in a game finish was winner of the Rosedale Handicap at Ja maica today This sixfurlong dash was the feature offering on an interesting card of ¬ fered by the Metropolitan Jockey Club and the prize gave Silvio Coucci first rider for the Greentree Stable his third winning mount of the day He had scored with both Polycletus and New Flag in earlier races racesFollowing Following Good Advice past the finish in the Rosedale Purse came Mrs John Hertz Pairbypair which just lasted long enough to nose out the Wheatley Stables Slapdash for second place The only other starter was Miss Mamie Dioguardis Dunlilt and he was far back backA A drop in temperature made topcoats necessary but a big crowd was out for the sport that was offered and the general class of the horses engaged was a bit better than has been the recent rule at Jamaica There was plenty of contest in most of the races Pairbypair was making his first appear ¬ ance of the season in the Rosedale and the big son of Noah though beaten gave an excellent account of himself under his im ¬ post of 120 pounds He was the one to force the pace throughout and it was only in the final furlong that he tired It is probable the race will do him good and he will show to askingWith better advantage at the next asking With little delay at the stalls the small field went away in good alignment and Pairbypair at once took command Dun lilt which was also under silks for the first time this year went with him and then came Good Advice with Slapdash last of the four but all in such close order that position was of little moment momentIt It was going to the first turn that Coucci moved up on the outside with Good Advice and as Dunlilt dropped back he soon was racing stride for stride with Mr Hertz sprinter At this time Slapdash was run ¬ ning along strongly and she seemed to have room to come through but just when such a move was expected Horn elected to go wide and he changed the course of the filly o the outside outsideAt At the same time Good Advice headed Pairbypair circling around the son of Noah jut Steffen held his rail position with the jig chestnut and was not willing to give up 3e went stride for stride with Good Advice but finally cracked and the Wise Counsellor colt was on by to cross the line winner by a length In the meantime Slapdash was coming with a belated rush on the outside and she was just a nod short of taking second place from Pairbypair Dunlilt had been badly outrun after his exhibition of early speed and was last by eight lengths lengthsWhen When stewards again refused to permit the waiving of an apprentice allowance much of the interest in the opening juvenile dash was lost Haas had been engaged to ride Little Lie the natural choice for the dash but when he was suspended Tuesday permission was asked to waive the allow ¬ ance and ride another jockey This was re ¬ fused as it was in the case of Joe Jacobs earlier in the meeting Thus the field went to the post without the most eligible of those entered With Little Lie out of the way by reason of this action of the stew ¬ ards it was not much of a contest contestJ J J Robinsons Jessie D M moved into a long early lead and was at no time threat ¬ ened to be the winner by four lengths George D Wideners Cheka which raced second throughout saved that part of the purse from Mrs Paul Fox Dunfox by two lengths and as a matter of fact the three raced in the drder of the finish from the time they left the stalls stallsThe The second offering was a six furlongs dash for maiden threeyearolds and W R Coes Polycletus under a hustling ride by Coucci just lasted to score over On Hand a brother to Tick On that raced under the silks of the Kershaw Stable Far back of these Hustle a stablemate of the winner barely saved third from Carry Over which raced for the Wheatley Stable Samuel D Riddles silks were shown for the first time on Fighting Mike a son of Man o War which was considered good enough earlier to be named for the Preakness Another in the company was Jack Low a brother to that good sprinter Jack High But these were both soundly beaten beatenBill Bill Brennan uncovered another smart juvenile filly from the Greentree Stable in the third race and it afforded Coucci his second winning mount when New Flag led home a smart band of maiden fillies This miss is a daughter of Pennant and Crispena and in this her first race she performed splendidly George D Wideners Go Quick raced to second place and she was well before Marshall Fields Mock Turtle which ran down Victor Emanuels Maidwell to take third thirdGo Go Quick was first to show from the stalls but New Flag which had one of the outside positions soon had her headed and Mock Turtle and Maidwell followed these closely In the run through the back stretch Maidwell headed Mock Turtle but not for long while New Flag with Coucci saving all the ground possible held com mand mandGoing Going to the stretch turn Hunter moved up strongly with Go Quick and a furlong out she was lapped on the Greentiee miss but she could get ho closer and at the end New Flag still had a length to spare
